It isen't always fun being someones younger sister

I had a moment of connection with my younger daughter today as I sympathized with her about how being the younger sister in the family is not always easy. Leyla was trying to teach Natalie how to play duck duck goose but really what was happening is Leyla was smacking her on the head and then runing in a circle around her laughing. After a couple times Natalie decided this was not nearly as funny as Leyla thought it was and began to cry. As I picked her up the thought that came to my mind was why do older siblings always want to play games that their younger sister can not yet play or understand. Well it is because they know they can win these games. The next thought was wow I would have never jumped to that first thought if I was not also the younger sister in my family ha ha. So I comforted Natalie and told her I understood how she felt because I was the baby too and I'm sure that Leyla's behavior was totally something my brother would have done. Oh siblings are so much fun I love the dynamic that having two children two years apart brings to my family. Actually Leyla is a wonderful big sister and I love that just recently the girls have begun trying to play together. I love watching the little games that they discover they can play together. Apparently today Leyla learned that duck duck goose is not one of them and she'll have to put that one on the shelf until Natalie can at least walk.

Lesson of the day don't leave your 3 year old alone for 5 minutes

So this morning Leyla was being a little dificult when I asked her if she wanted breakfast she said no, I asked if she wanted to get dressed she said no. So I got Natalie her breakfast and then asked Leyla several more times what she wanted for breakfast and all I got was no. Alittle frustrated I decided to go upstairs and just give her a few minutes. I figured she would soon either follow me upstairs or by the time I went back down she would have decided she was ready. Apparently she found a third option I had not thought of. She decided she was ready for breakfast and did not need my help in getting it. While I was upstairs reading a couple post of facebook and "meditating on the death of my Savior" She was downstairs making herself breakfast. Obviously mothers don't get to meditate very long or need to find a better time to do it lol. When I walked in the kitchen Leyla looked up at me, smiled and said "Mommy I did it" ha ha she sure did. Kevin and I have jokingly wondered a few times on Saturday mornings when She would be old enough to get herself up and get breakfast herself so that we could sleep in lol I don't think we are there yet.
Just in case you can't see it I would like to point out she did do it. She has a full bowl of ceral with milk and a glass of juice.

just another post

I have to say that when Leyla was born I was really scared but our NICU experience was something I will never forget. I do remember all the scary moments and how much I wanted to just get out of there and take my baby girl home towards the end but I also remember there were some really great days. Days that I spend hours reading to my girl, holding her, and taking care of her. The nurses would tell me how little they had to do because I was there everyday and had learned all the things that needed to be done above the normal newborn things.
I say that because I think that is what really changed my out look on what God was calling me to do. It was the amazing NICU nurses that helped me come to realized that nursing was something I should be doing. I can't wait to find out if I've been accepted to the nursing program at Ivy Tech.
My life has changed so much since that day that Leyla was born and it would have changed in such a different way if she had not made it. I often try not to think about how real of a possibility that was. I'm so thankful for both of my little girls
Which reminds me Natalie is crawling and has three teeth now. She just decided to get all her teeth at the same time. However, now we have a new theory about why she isen't sleeping, her teeth hurt. I have given her a small amount of tylonal each night but she is still getting up a couple times. Oh well her and I had some special time this morning because we got up before sister and daddy. Now time to get ready to spend some quality time with our church family

Why I'm blogging

I never thought I would write a blog but I decided to walk for march of dimes for Leyla and I thought maybe it was time I wrote a little bit of the story from my view. I'm walking because I want to honor my beautiful mircle baby girl. Leyla was born at 30 weeks 5 days and weight 2 pounds 12 oz. I never thought something like this could happen to me and I was scared to death that I was completely out of control of my daughters life. I can say the only way I got through those few months we spent in the NICU was with God's hold me up. Leyla was a super hero she did so well and got strong and stronger every day. Leyla has never had any lasting problems from being premature and I want to celebrate that. I have a very real sense that this sistuation could have turned out very differently and yes I believe the reason it didn't was all God, but I want to give thanks to the wonderful NICU that was my daughters first home. The awesome technology, doctors, and nurses that took care of my little angel were nothing less than amazing. I want every premature baby to have the absolute best chance for survival so March of Dimes has become something I support very strongly. I hope many will come along with me in this journey of support for this wonderful organization.
